DUBLIN — Research and Markets (http://www.researchandmarkets.com/research/21a682/analyzing_chinas)
has announced the addition of the “Analyzing China’s Biofuel Industry”
report to their offering.
Although biofuels are mainly used to replace or supplement the
traditional petroleum-based transportation fuels, they can also be
deployed to generate heat and electricity. Being an alternative to
fossils, biofuels can be applied to existing vehicles with little or no
engine modification. Although they release CO2 when burned in internal
combustion engines, they differ from fossil fuels partly because their
use reduces the net emission of carbon dioxide and other gases
associated with global climate change and partly because they are
biodegradable.
Biofuels have had a long history of use in the transport sector. This
began in the 1970s and early 1980s when a substantial increase in
biofuels production and use in many countries resulted from high oil
prices. But biofuels became less competitive vis–vis fossil fuels
after the collapse of oil prices in the mid-1980s, and global interest
in biofuels for transport waned considerably in the 1990s and the first
years of the 21st century.
The recent sustained increase in international oil prices has once again
highlighted the potential for biofuels to contribute to transport fuel
demand, particularly in countries that import the bulk of fossil fuel
supplies. Global concerns about the effects of fossil fuel use on the
environment, as well as recognition of the benefits of energy supply
diversification also support increasing biofuels production and use.
There is a lot happening in the field of biofuels in China, and to
capture these, Aruvian’s R’search brings you the complete guide to the
Chinese Biofuels Industry – Analyzing China’s Biofuels Industry.
The report begins with an analysis of the basic know-hows one needs to
be familiar with before starting on the fascinating journey of
discovering the biofuels industry in China. The economics of biofuels,
issues facing the industry, regulatory barriers as well as incentives,
technologies involved, major types of biofuels, and many other topics
are discussed in depth at the starting of the report.
Divided into eleven sections, This report then moves on to Section 2,
which analyzes the Chinese Energy Industry. From looking at the energy
challenges facing the country to the macroeconomic drivers in China, and
the rising demand for energy in the transportation sector, the section
also takes a look at the various sectors of the energy industry such as
oil, natural gas, electricity, coal, amongst others.
Section 3 is focused on the Chinese Biofuels Industry. History of the
industry’s development through the years, the biofuel diffusion policy
in China, position of the biofuel policy in the Chinese renewable energy
plan, the strategic implementation of the biofuel policy, and the
dominating role of the Chinese government in the biofuels industry is
analyzed in details in the report.
Section 4 is a complete analysis of the biodiesel industry in China.
Market overview, statistics, R&D; profile, production, and end-use
technologies are just some of the points focused on in this section. A
comprehensive analysis is carried out on the availability of biomass for
biodiesel production and the potential use of these biomass sources in
agriculture and forestry. Biomass sources such as Jatropha Curcas,
Pistacia chinensis Bunge, Xanthoceras sorbifolia Bunge, and many others
are discussed in this section. Seedcake and Glycerin are analyzed as the
by-products. Markets and cost analysis of the by-products of biodiesel
are something to watch out for in the report.
The economics, prices and competitiveness of biodiesel in China is
touched upon, along with the benefits of biodiesel and the barriers
facing the development of biodiesel in China.
The future of biodiesel till 2020 in terms of biodiesel demand and
production potential is also included.
Section 5 moves on to analyzing the bioethanol industry in China. Market
overview, statistics, end-use technologies, biomass such as sweet
sorghum, cassava, sugarcane, etc., are analyzed in the section

S&P; takes a look at the insurance industry’s financial status
Last year, banks, investment firms and other financial institutions – not to mention the U.S. auto industry – sat on a financial fault line perilously close to total annihilation until the federal government stepped in. How government loans and bailouts will work to steady a faltering economy is anyone’s guess.
To date, the property and casualty insurance industry has not experienced the bloodletting that has hit other parts of the financial world. You can’t count AIG because that was a holding company failure, not a failure of its myriad insurance companies, which are still operating successfully. Nevertheless, the property and casualty insurance industry has been negatively affected by the economic downturn as well as the normal soft market cyclicality that has dominated the industry over the last few years. Standard & Poor’s has taken a look at where the industry stands and communicates those findings to the public via articles, press releases and teleconferences.
First, let’s look at how the industry fared during the first nine months of 2008 as reported by the Insurance Services Office (ISO) and the Property Casualty Insurers Association of America (PCI).
The U.S. property and casualty insurance industry’s net income after taxes through nine-months 2008 amounted to $4.1 billion, down 91.8% from $50 billion through ninemonths 2007. The insurance industry’s overall profitability as measured by its annualized rate of return on average policyholders’ surplus dropped to 1.1% for ninemonths 2008 from 13.1% for the same period a year earlier.
Both underwriting results and investment results also deteriorated, according to ISO and PCI.
Insurers suffered $19.9 billion in net losses on underwriting through the first nine months of last year, a $38.3 billion adverse swing from insurers’ $18.4 billion in net gains on underwriting through nine months 2007. The combined ratio worsened to 105.6 in the first nine months of 2008 from 93.8 in the first nine months of 2007

COULD this be the world’s most expensive car crash? Last Monday the driver of this pounds 5million 1958 Ferrari 250TR lost his brakes in the Monterey Historics race and bashed its hand-fettled front along the tyre wall.
I’ve spared you the heart-rending and hugely expensive aftermath, which will keep the world’s best panel-beater in business for months.
And that’s before he’s even started on the damage to the suspension and chassis.
I hope it was insured…

HARRISBURG, Pa. — Citizens for Pennsylvanias Future (PennFuture) today announced that it
had sent letters of intent to sue to five central Pennsylvania dairy
farms that allegedly allow animal sewage and sediment to discharge into
local waters, in violation of the Pennsylvania Clean Streams Law. These
letters start the clock, giving the farms 60 days to clean up their
pollution and adopt a plan to prevent more discharges before a lawsuit
is filed.
This pollution is not only illegal, it is a serious risk to the health
and safety of people and wildlife all along the local streams, and
ultimately in the Chesapeake Bay, said Kimberly Snell-Zarcone,
agriculture attorney for PennFuture. Farming doesnt give anyone a
license to pollute, and there are plenty of resources to help farmers
adopt techniques to avoid having livestock manure enter our waters.
Unless these farms take action immediately to stop their pollution, we
will go to court to make them stop.
These types of farming operations, with bare barnyards along public
waters, are a danger to everyones access to clean water, continued
Snell-Zarcone. Clean water must start here, and our government agencies
must enforce the law to make sure that clean water is a permanent
reality.
The farms identified by PennFuture are allegedly allowing sewage and
sediment pollution to enter into a number of streams and tributaries,
all of which provide water to the Chesapeake Bay. The waterways polluted
by these farms include Reynolds Run, which is classified as
High-Quality, Cold Water Fishes; a tributary of the Conowingo Creek; a
tributary to the Little Conowingo Creek; and a tributary of the Octoraro
Creek

PCRM Recipient of Innovator Award in Online Fundraising Category
AUSTIN, Texas — The Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM), a nonprofit
organization that promotes healthy, plant-based diets for disease
prevention and modern, nonanimal methods in medical education and
research, was presented with an Innovator Award in the Online
Fundraising category for their use of Convio Online Marketing solutions
to develop a year-end giving campaign that combined an advocacy
component and a matching gift challenge. All award winners were
recognized at a ceremony last night at the Convio
Summit, the companys annual conference where more than 650
nonprofit clients, partners and industry thought leaders gather as a
community to share common experiences and effective strategies for
nonprofits.
We are honored to be recognized for our online fundraising efforts
around our year-end campaign. The overwhelming support and donations
from our constituents is essential for achieving our mission, said
Craig Ziskin, associate director of annual giving at PCRM. The gifts
raised during our online fundraising campaign far exceeded our
expectations and attest to the success nonprofits can achieve when
engaging with their donor base online.
PCRM received the Online Fundraising award for creatively
generating interest in their year-end fundraising campaign to raise
money and awareness around its mission. Using multi-staged emails
and personalization effectively, constituents were invited to join a
“First Responders Team” who would be called on in the future to take
action with their elected representatives, and a subsequent email
introduced a matching gift challenge. The donor who extended the
challenge was so pleased with the response from the first message, he
increased his challenge grant twice, and each time members were
informed, and they responded generously. As a result of the campaign,
over 900 gifts generated a 300 percent increase over the previous years
online campaign. Nine other nonprofits received Innovator Awards
and were recognized in categories including Advocacy, Best Use of Open,
CRM Visionary with Common Ground, Constituent Empowerment, Email
Communications, List Growth, Overall Use of Convio, Special Events and
Best Website. All Convio clients were eligible to submit for the awards.
PCRMs tremendous results with the year-end matching gift campaign are
a testament to the dedication of their donors, whom weve successfully
engaged both online and in the mail, said Lesley Hostetter, Senior
Account Executive for Lautman Maska Neill & Company.
Our clients are leading the charge in embracing online technologies to
create stronger relationships with their constituents and cultivate
support for their missions, said Gene Austin, CEO of Convio.
Recognizing the success of our clients at Summit with our annual
Innovator Award ceremony allows the entire nonprofit community to learn
from each others unique and best-in-class strategies for fundraising,
advocacy, events and managing supporter interaction.
